Mitochondria are often imaged using constitutive mitochondrial proteins, which are particularly abundant and therefore suitable for staining.  After fixation, primary antibodies were coupled to species-specific secondary antibodies, carrying fluorophores suitable for dSTORM. The use of dSTORM allows to study the localisation of mitochondrial proteins with greater precision than standard confocal microscopy.
